What is Title I?

Title I, Part A is a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education for public schools with high numbers or percentages of economically challenged children to help ensure that those children meet the challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards.  

Schools receive the Title I, Part A funds based upon the percentage of scholars who qualify for free or reduced priced lunch.

Types of Title I Programs

  • Schoolwide Programs (SWP) – Schools with more than 40% of students receiving free or reduced lunch serves all students in the school.

  • Targeted Assisted Programs (TAP) – Schools with less than 40% of students receiving reduced lunch serves only qualified students.

  • Latin Grammar School is a Title I Schoolwide Program(SWP) school where ALL students benefit and are served through Title I funding.
