Andrew McKinnon, Treasurer (amckinnon.board@theriseschools.org)

Andrew is currently a Finance Project Manager for Delta Air Lines. Prior to working for Delta, he was a fixed income portfolio manager for TIAA-CREF in Charlotte, NC. Andrew holds a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. He also holds an undergraduate degree in English from Boston College. 

 

Candace Tate, Chair (ctate.board@theriseschools.org)

Candace currently works in Finance for a private Industrial Supply company. Prior to transitioning to the corporate sector, she was a teen mentor and taught special education in a high-needs elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. There, she has had the opportunity to support the needs and attain educational growth of children with a wide range of disabilities including: emotional disturbance, autism, echolalia, generalized learning disabilities, and speech impairments. While life has taken her out of the classroom, she has not lost her passion for making sure that each child receives education of the highest standard. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Wesleyan University and a Master’s degree in General and Special Education from Long Island University as a NYC Teaching Fellow. 

 

Shannon White, Vice Chair and Secretary (swhite.board@theriseschools.org)

Shannon currently supervises entry-level public heath trainees. She is also the founder of Royal White Consulting, LLC, which focuses on improving the structure, function, and fiscal capacity of nonprofit organizations. Shannon began her career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2003, where she led an evaluation of a national network focused on tobacco health disparities. For more than 10 years, she provided technical assistance to multiple awardees focused on chronic disease health equity. Shannon holds a Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education from Clark Atlanta University.

 

Karl Prevost (kprevost.board@theriseschools.org)

Karl currently works as a school psychologist for Clayton County Public Schools where he supports the educational, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of 3,500+ K-12 students and the educators committed to them. Prior to working as a school psychologist, Karl worked as a psychometrist while also serving as a research assistant for the Center for Research on School Safety, School Climate, and Classroom Management at Georgia State University.  Mentorship and youth empowerment are enduring passions of his, as Karl has served with chapters of the 100 Black Men of America and the Boys & Girls Club in their efforts to empower underprivileged and at-risk, male youth. He continues to function as a mentor both inside and outside of the school systems of the greater New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Atlanta through school-based organizations, such as Students Against Destructive Decision (SADD), and community-based initiatives, such as the Youth ChalleNGe Academy.  Karl holds an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) and a Master of Education in School Psychology from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southern University and A&M College.

 

 Brandon Arentson (barentson.board@theriseschools.org)

Brandon Arentson is an Advisory & Assurance Manager who leads teams in projects that help business leaders throughout the Cox family of businesses to reduce risk, redesign processes, and improve cybersecurity. He started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers before joining Cox Enterprises, and he has learned first-hand that empathy, listening, and genuine partnership are game-changing approaches to the creation of long-term value and change in business and in life. Throughout his career Brandon has led many successful projects across diverse disciplines, including recommending approaches to improving disaster recovery at Cox’s media business; assessing readiness for Europe’s new data protection laws for Cox’s international automotive business units; and identifying comprehensive ways to enhance employee experience across all of Cox. Brandon is a Certified Information Security Auditor, and he’s currently working to attain a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and the Certified Information Security Manager certification. He is a board member at RISE Grammar School in East Point, GA, and he also regularly volunteers with Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, and his church. Brandon holds a bachelor’s degree in business management, with a focus in Management Information Systems and Finance, from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
