Our Assessments

We believe that regular assessments are key to determining student progress and gaps and tailoring instruction to meet individual students' needs. The following assessments are some of the standardized tools that we use to help our students achieve success.


Georgia kindergarten inventory of developing skills

The Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (GKIDS) is a year-long, performance-based assessment aligned to the state mandated content standards. The primary purpose of GKIDS is to provide ongoing diagnostic information about kindergarten students' developing skills in English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Personal/Social Development, and Approaches to learning. The GKIDS program is designed to provide teachers with information about the level of instructional support needed by individual students entering kindergarten and first grade. The assessment also provides a summary of student performance in English Language Arts and Math at the end of the kindergarten school year.

Strategic Teaching & Evaluation of Progress (STEP)

Strategic Teaching and Evaluation of Progress (STEP) is a system of assessments designed to help students in pre-kindergarten through third grade learn to read. The system provides tools to help teachers assess students' literacy levels as they move through the 13-level STEP process. We use STEP data to look at each student's growth and performance as well as overall school and grade level trends with the goal of helping all children to reach literacy proficiency by third grade.

NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)

The NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a computerized assessment that creates a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student’s learning level. For example, if a student answers a question correctly, the test follows up with a more challenging question. On the other hand, if a student answers incorrectly, the test follows up with an easier question. By adjusting the difficulty of items to meet each student's needs, MAP is able to precisely measure individual progress and growth.
